A Jackie Robinson Story:
1) Jackie wakes early on April 15, 1947, at the McAlpin Hotel in NYC. On his way to Ebbets Field, he tells his wife Rachel, “Just in case you have trouble picking me out, I’ll be wearing #42.” He rides the subway to Brooklyn. #JackieRobinsonDay

2) At the ballpark, Jackie recalls an exchange with Dodgers’ manager Clyde Sukeforth. “Sukey turned to me and asked me how I felt. I told him I felt fine, and he said, ‘Good, you’re starting at first base’.” Jackie’s debut was secured. #JackieRobinsonDay

3) Rachel leaves for Ebbets Field that day with Jack, Jr. in tow, she struggles to find a cab to Brooklyn. The weather is cool at the ballpark, so a friend tucks Jack, Jrunder her coat to keep warm. #JackieRobinsonDay

4) Before the game, Jackie poses for photos with Dodgers infielders, Spider Jorgenson, Pee Wee Reese, and Eddie Stanky. Alabama native Eddie Stanky rests his arm on Jackie’s shoulder. #JackieRobinsonDay

5) During the game, Robinson is called out at first, hits a fly ball to left, hits into a double play, and only makes it to base when a bunt is mishandled. He says about the day, “If they are all like this, I’m going to have a tough time making this league.” #JackieRobinsonDay

6) Jackie Robinson would go onto have a ten-year, HOF career including being named NL Rookie of the Year (1947), NL MVP (1949) and a 6X All Star. #JackieRobinsonDay
