Thread: Ever wondered what kind of militarized vehicles your city is running around with?

A little (likely incomplete) roundup of police armored vehicles in the Sacramento region.

First up: CHP's Lenco Bearcat

Sacramento County Sheriff also has a Bearcat.

Sacramento Police Department bought a new Bearcat in March of 2020, in addition to one it already owned. This is the older one. The new one cost over $400,000.

Sacramento Police also runs an older Cadillac Gage Ranger/Peacekeeper. Tbh it always looks kind of sketchy to me, like some amateur killdozered it together in his garage. But I guess it's a real thing. I think they planned to retire it with the new Bearcat purchase.

Citrus Heights PD has an International Maxxpro MRAP (Mine-resistant Ambush Protected), for God knows what reason. I think it's been painted green at some point. The Maxxpro was designed for military use

It's difficult to find pictures, but West Sacramento PD has a black and white MaxxPro MRAP too.

Elk Grove PD has a Bearcat

Lodi PD also has a Bearcat.

Woodland PD's Maxxpro MRAP originally belonged to Davis, but the community objected so they shipped it the full 9 miles down 113 to Woodland.

I hadn't heard of these before, but after they got rid of the MRAP, Davis bought an armored vehicle meant to mimic a standard Transit cargo van. (Photo from DPD slideshow that was ultimately approved for purchase)

Placer County Sheriff runs a Bearcat

El Dorado County Sheriff also has a Bearcat

Solano County Sheriff has a Lenco BEAR, the larger cousin of the Bearcat.

Vacaville PD has an absolutely monstrous BAE Caiman. In an economic impact document I found, VPD reports the six tires alone are a $21,000 value

Here's Fairfield Police Department's Bearcat

Looks like a Antioch PD has a MaxxPro MRAP.

Surprising absolutely no one, Vallejo PD has a Caiman, a Bearcat, and a Peacekeeper.

I'm pretty sure these are out of commission, but not very reassuring that they ever were in action in the first place. Solano County Sheriff's Cadillac Gage Commando and M113 APC.

Nevada County Sheriff also has a Caiman

It's a bit further away but I wanted to add because it's a different kind of vehicle: Redding Police use a SWAT vehicle made by Texas Armoring Corporation (pictured). They also added a Bearcat early this year.

A quick correction: on the left is not a Cadillac Gage Commando but the similar Dragoon 300. It's an amphibious vehicle.

One final piece, since a lot of people from out of the area are seeing this. This isn't an extensive survey of the whole state of CA. It's a little slice, mostly covering about a ~40 mile radius around our 6th most populous city. Here's the listed agencies in relation to CA
