Every week I point out that the number of parallels, recurring layouts, and reused assets (mostly BGs but some animation sheets too) between Dynazenon and Gridman goes way beyond any plain corner-cutting, and by the next episode they just increase them. This show's toying with us

If there's a reason to believe that it'll have a significance beyond the cheeky nods, it's that Gridman already used repetition meaningfully to represent (un)changing relationships. Dynazenon's following that same path (same bus?), whatever purpose it has

And they sure are driving the point home that this is the same world but much more mundane-looking, without the unnatural weather and visible looming threat of the kaiju - even though those are very much a thing over here too. Very interesting given the series' overall context

That said my favorite recurring shot is this Wooser cameo because he became a ghost in between the series. Rest in peace you rude mascot

On its own, Dynazenon continues to be funny as hell. Love letters to a genre feel much more genuine when they know how to poke fun at it without ridiculing, and having the protagonist cough through all the glorious stock footage because he had a cold this week is exactly that

There's no character with a personality as immediately magnetic as Akane's, but the ensemble cast is more intriguing on the whole, and seeing the two sides of Yume slowly converge is nice. By which I mean yes more dorky Yume thank you

Good anime
