And now, because many people don't know how we celebrate Eid*, a thread on our day yesterday.
(*like most everyone's celebrations, with food, family, friends)

We began with 9am prayers at the mosque. Most folks outside & masked for safety.

I particularly appreciated the Eid sermon in which the Imam encouraged us to continue to be careful and wear masks saying we have a responsibility to all of humanity to protect the health of others too.

My two younger ones just hanging out waiting to pray in congregation.

Then we headed home for a late breakfast. We had already had something sweet (shahi tukray, ghee fried bread soaked in cardamom cream w nuts) to eat before prayers, as is the custom, but were ready to tear up turkish sausages, cholay, home made fried bread (puri), and eggs.

Then we relaxed at home a bit, gave the kids Eid gifts and Eid money, because it's the cash they're after. I think my daughters raked in over five hundred bucks each from family and friends.

Then a late lunch with (fully vaccinated) family at a (socially distanced) restaurant, here's my little man greeting his Nana Abu, my dad.

And he's equally crazy about my sister and her kids

Stuffed ourselves at lunch, took no pics of food because were shamefully ravenous but there was briyani, nihari, haleem, chicken tikka, and other stuff I can't remember. Handed out more gifts, then got some pics with the family.

Then the family came to our place to hang out and together we delivered Eid cookies to about ten neighbors.

Costco zindabaad.

The rest of the evening friends stopped by, hung out till well past midnight and we ate and ate and ate.

Dinner was pizza, fried chicken/ sides, hummus, desserts, and goodies friends brought.

It was a lovely day, great weather, food, company.

Typical Eid day, demystified!
