HOW THE EARLY WAHHABIS MURDERED ONE OF THEIR TOP SCHOLARS

When sects like the Wahhabis have people who go against their interests, there’s only one way they like to deal with them...

even if it's one of their top scholars… 🧵

The Wahhabis have a history of mass slaughtering Muslims. This is well documented in their own history books by Ibn Ghanam/Ibn Bishr. Of course, the Wahhabis label those killed as “mushriks”, but this is no different from Israel killing Palestinian civilians as evil “terrorists”.

How about when Wahhabis turn on THEIR OWN people who no longer serve their interests? Indeed, this happened notoriously when the Wahhabi leader, Abdul Aziz Ibn Saud murdered his own Wahhabi fighters, the Ikhwan, slaughtering them with machine guns supplied by his British allies.

But such internal brutality has even extended to their top scholars. The case here concerns a Muhammad ibn Ali IBN GHARIB [d. 1208/9H/1794]. The following account is found in both Sunni source: “Suhub ul-Wabilah” by Imam Ibn Humaid al-Hanbali & Salafi/Najdi source: “Ulama’ Najd”.

Ibn Gharib was one of the top scholars of the Wahhabi Dawah in the lifetime of their heretical founder, Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab [d. 1792]. The Salafi source lists him 6th in a line of those who “helped the dawah” after MIAW himself, two of his sons, and two of his students.

The Najdi & Sunni sources both identify Ibn Gharib as a preacher for the “Dawah” of the Wahhabis/Salafiyyah, who wrote against the doubts of those who opposed it.

He was someone the Wahhabis immensely respected and trusted, who even refuted points that other Wahhabis could not.

However, Ibn Humaid, the OFFICIAL Hanbali biographer of that period notes: "He would agree with them in the open, but oppose them in secret.” In reality, Ibn Gharib, was an orthodox Sunni Muslim who complied with the Wahhabis but found them extreme in killing, takfir & plunder.

Though due to their ruthless violence, he decided to remain quiet & keep writing for them.

One day, a foreigner befriended him. As the Najdi source relays, this foreigner asked Ibn Gharib if he thought the ghanima (war booty from their killing of Muslims) was halal to eat from.

Ibn Gharib - not wanting to blow his cover - answered, yes it’s halal to eat from. But the man kept asking over and over again and finally asked him, “by Allah” to tell him what Ibn Gharib really thinks. Eventually, Ibn Gharib answered: “You should stay away from it.”

Ibn Humaid relates that Ibn Gharib also disclosed to his foreign acquaintance that the Wahhabis were extremists in takfir, killing & pillaging (which rendered the ghanima unlawful).

At this, the foreign man told the Wahhabi authorities who captured Ibn Gharib and executed him.

Ibn Humaid explains: due to Ibn Gharib’s vast knowledge, refutation skills & inside info, he would'v posed a problem for the Wahhabis as he’d be able to expose their faults, heresies & misdeeds.

Ibn Gharib's death actually meant other secretly anti-Wahhabi scholars kept silent…

Ibn Humaid tells us of Ibn Gharib’s step son Imam Abdul Aziz ibn Hamad, who already resented the Wahhabi Dawah, but increased in aversion to it after the execution of his step father. Thus, he continued to pay lip service, and be a proponent of the Dawah for fear of being killed.

In conclusion, the Wahhabi movement:

i) Murdered its own top scholar(s) who didn't approve of their actions
ii) Had internal scholars who thought they were excessive in takfir/killing
iii) Had people who outwardly served it, despite secretly hating it, for fear of being killed.

Fortunately, this account comes from both Sunni & Salafi/Najdi sources, so its authenticity cannot really be questioned.

The account is also given here in English:

May Allah protect us from the evil of the Salafi-Wahhabi Sect 🤲🏽

END.
