As the nation’s culture minister is more bothered about the percentage of green in the national flag behind Kejriwal’s chair than how many in delhi are vaccinated, here is how our flag evolved: (1/n)
This was India’s first unofficial national flag. It was unfurled on August 7, 1906, in the Parsee Bagan Square (Green Park) in Calcutta! (2/n)
This 2nd flag designed by Madame Cama was hoisted in Paris in 1907. Similar to the first except the lotus in the top panel replaced by seven stars denoting the Saptarishi. This flag was also exhibited at a socialist conference in Berlin. (3/n)
The credit for the 3rd Flag also goes to another lady rockstar from our freedom struggle -Annie Besant. Hoisted by Tilak & her in 1917 in Bombay during the Home Rule Movement. (4/n)
The 4th Flag was unveiled @ 1922 Bezwada session All India Congress Committee. Originally with 2 colour-red & green-representing 2 major communities i.e. Hindus and Muslims. Gandhiji suggested the addition of a white strip to represent the remaining communities of India! (5/n)
The 5th Flag makes its appearance in 1931. A resolution was passed adopting a tricolor flag as our national flag. This flag was saffron, white and green with Mahatma Gandhi's spinning wheel! It was made clear that the colours had no communal significance! (6/n)
The 6th & final Flag was adopted on July 22, 1947, by our Constituent Assembly as Free India’s National Flag. Gandhi’s Charka made way for the Dharma Charkha of Emperor Asoka! The Government has framed a Flag Code on how it can be manufactured, exhibited and treated. (n/n)
