Om Prakash Sharma lost his son Rahul, 33, when the ambulance taking them from Alwar to Jaipur ran out of Oxygen. An inquiry found the hospital staff not just guilty of dereliction of duty but also negligence as Rahul, a Covid patient, was being treated by a homeopathy doctor.

Saurabh, a resident of Bansur tehsil in Alwar, lost his mother as they struggled to find a ventilator bed. Family tried calling local BJP MP Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Rajasthan's health minister Raghu Sharma and an MLA from Nagaur district but no help came.

An ESI hospital in Alwar, approved while UPA was in power, has been a work-in-progress for almost a decade. Cleared with a budget of Rs 1000 cr the hospital is not fully functional yet.

In May 2021, Union labour minister, Santosh Gangwar, visited Alwar to inaugurate 200-bed Covid care facility at ESI hospital. Hoardings like these were put up across entire stretch on the road leading to the hospital.

Inauguration of Covid facility was marked by planting of a sapling at the ESI hospital premises. BJP MP from Alwar, Mahant Balaknath along with Union minister Gangwar. All this for a hospital which if fully functional could have accommodated 3000 patients.

While people were gasping for breath and surfing frantically through Rajasthan health department website for a bed, Alwar's ESI hospital emerged as a monumental failure because of political apathy. @shivangi441 & I report for @newslaundry and @nlhindi. Story coming soon.
