Canadian proposed regulatory flavour ban. Chapter 3

Regulatory analysis section - initial notes.

Disclaimer: I have no training in the complexities of modelling. I am certain there will be things I miss. There will also be things I note that later turn out to be inconsequential.

If you were to ask me “which retailer in your area sells to youth”

Not only would I have an immediate answer, but I can demonstrate that the tobacco control directorate has been made aware.

Funny thing about numbers. It takes very little shift in reference to create a massive shift in perception.

The idea that 3% can be larger than 14% is counterintuitive.

Which of course, sometimes is the point.

Not the first time regulation will cause an increase in smoking.

Which is odd. The entire regulation is about the other 17%. I would think there would be a fair amount of discussion on the impact (lack thereof) to the youth market.

Might be a stretch to say today, but keep course and any goal can be reached.

Expectations are what help regulators sleep at night.

Every regulatory change to date has resulted in my shops “eating” the cost of removing non-compliant product.

2k low end
12 k high end

Bwahahahaha… (gasp)… ahhhhhh hahahaha

Oh… you meant what’s left of the legitimate market AFTER this…

Because this is what happened to those working in my sector…

Bookend with optimism. Nobody reads the stuff in the middle anyway.

GIGO

The younger crowd may have to google that.

There is a significant difference between “Flavour House Flavouring” and Chemical Compounds.

In composition
In handling requirements
And in availability.

Bright rays of bullshi… sunshine

Are we ready for the crazy stuff?

“Qualitative Costs”

Bloom coming off the rose.

For some.

Costs go beyond business…

These folks also impacted but we’ve already written them off….
“Can’t make an omelette…” #AmIRight?

But nevermind all that. This is a GREAT way to get to 5% smoking prevalence by 2035.

Sterilization is too slow, and euthanization just has bad optics…

You thought we were going to skip “old faithful” didn’t you.

But over here we can say 10 years is plenty…

5 bucks to the first person who can identify EXACTLY who pulled this number out of their ass and how they justified it… first clue included.

At this stage I could replace every comment with “Bullshit” and be equally effective in summation.

Continuing… hit max thread count

More carefully worded references to independent business apocalypse.

More consumer impact.

1st and only reference to black market in qualitative impacts…

“If we don’t talk about it maybe it won’t happen?”

Because these consumers would never seek out their desired product on a black market…

Don’t be silly.

You know the guy who sells product in an unmarked bottle directly to a 10 yr old?

That guy gets a rap on the knuckles and a 3 K fine….

And we shall finish with the standard disclaimer explaining why everything I just said does not matter.

Now…. You all digest that.

I’m nipping across the parking lot to the cannabis retailer.

I have the rest of the day to face…
