It's not just school children who are being left to fend for themselves as the government lets covid rip.

Cases in university towns with large student populations soared as the academic year ended, with some of the highest rates in the country.

With most restrictions lifted and most students unvaccinated or only fairly recently eligible for their first dose, it's unsurprising that cases have been soaring, predominantly in people in their teens and early twenties in most of these areas.

While young people have a much lower risk of death, the ONS estimates over 100,000 people under the age of 25 are already living with ongoing health issues caused by covid.

90% have had long covid for over 12 weeks.

56% say it limits their activity.
