The statue and plaque of the James McGill statue has been removed by McGill University just now.

Reporting for @WestphalianNews in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

A few nights ago the James McGill statue was vandalized at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

It was not publicly announced that the statue would be removed today. In the past, the University administration had said they would not remove it.

The McGill University security is telling the media that if they do not leave McGill property, they will call the police on them.

Why does McGill University not want people to know that they removed its founder’s statue?

The crew has put a barricade up so the public cannot see.

This is likely the statue’s last time being on campus (you can see the James McGill guiding stick on the back of the truck).

McGill University sent out an email regarding the removal of it’s founder’s statue stating that pending an investigation into the university’s “historic record”, it is “undetermined” if “the sculpture will return to its current site”.

A McGill University professor and Department chair was at the scene of the removal of the James McGill statue and appeared gleeful about the removal.

Professor Adams tweeted “Bye bye James McGill statue”

Professor and Department chair Annmarie Adams (@AdamsAnnmarie) has since deleted her tweet of support to the removal of the James McGill statue.
