The Power of the Photograph:
When we share our photo albums w/ one another, our differences in language, culture, nationality, race & ideology melt away in the universality of our shared human experience. From North Korea here is:

Jin Hui’s Story: Album 1
threadreaderapp.com/thread/1420492…

2/Photo albums & video documentaries are powerful story-telling devises. The opening 35mm photo of a surfer at Big Lagoon Beach in the Part IV video of my recent camping-road trip👇(& others) was taken in 1987-88. How is my video different than Jin Hui's?

3/"Jin Hui's Story: Album 1", on the surface, is a concerted effort by Jin Hui, North Korean media & travel-tourism personnel & video arts specialists affiliated w/ the Party meant to make inroads into Western social media, inviting the public into viewing "Jin Hui's Story".

4/The video has great film direction w/ special effects beyond what I have on iMovie, segueing from 8 mm (special effects) visual & sound to the physical photo album w/ 35 mm photos to digital slides of Jin Hui and the places she visits. Naturally there'll be two camps divided on

5/the "authenticity" of the story-telling. I hope no analyst says: "In DPRK's latest form of propaganda - Photo Albums - a North Korean woman takes us on a tour of places in DPRK. We don't know if her name is actually Jin Hui, but we do know that this is obviously NK's newest

6/"form of propaganda...". Yet it doesn't even matter if "Jin Hui" is her real or stage name. She could be a North Korean actress & Jin Hui could be the name of the character she plays. And you cannot negate the realities of the places she takes you on a quick tour to see. They

7/are as real as the warmth of the timbre & tone of "Jin Hui's Story: Album 1" that has conquered Western hostility by making inroads into Western social media to say: "Hi! We are people from the DPRK. Get to know us & our country!" It's a Western-friendly creative film that

8/is intentionally ideologically blind, overlooking the past enmity of the Korean War & Cold War mind-set and trying "to make friends" w/ we of so-called liberal Western democracies. I embrace Jin Hui's Story wholeheartedly b/c I'd like to see those places & meet people like her!
