This is really sad news.
VILAS SONWANE is no more. He just passed away. After demise of Dilip Kumar (Yusuf Khan) Sahab, this is yet another big loss not only for Pasmanda Caste Muslim community of India but also entire Dalit Bahujan samaj.
VILAS SONWANE was among founders of All India Muslim OBC Organization (AIMOBCO). He was an active Marathi Dalit activist from Mumbai, who founded AIMOBCO along with Hassan Kamal, a Pasmanda Muslim lyricist of Hindi movies and Shabbir Ansari, Pasmanda Muslim &President of AIMOBCO.
Hindi film industry's legendary icon Dilip Kumar / Yusuf Khan Sahab formally joined AIMOBCO in 1990 after coming in contact Vilas Sonwane, Hassan Kamal and Shabbir Ansari. He along with Johhny Walker, a Pasmanda Muslim comedian actor promoted AIMOBCO aggressively and lovingly.
It was due to active lobbying by AIMOBCO that Maharashtra government finally included many Marathi Muslim Dalit ( Arjal), Muslim Adivasi and Ajlaf caste Muslims of Maharashtra as part of state's OBC community in 1994.
The term PASMANDA as well as Ashraf, Ajlaf and Arzals, which is giving a bad case of ulcer to many ultra orthodox Upper Caste Ashrafi Muslims TODAY became a part of academic mainstream due to efforts of legends like Vilas Sonwane & Dilip Kumar.
TODAY, terms like PASMANDA, Ashraf, Ajlaf & Arzal have crossed from field of academics to political assertion by India's Pasmanda caste communities of Arzal & Ajlaf caste Muslims, who are constitutionally called OBC Muslims now. Bhau VILAS SONWANE & DILIP Sahab are Bahujan icons.
