Rishi VALMIKI has got nothing to do with Valmiki community. It was a Congress Party's Hindu wing - Arya Samaj's ambitious project to Hinduize vast "Lal Begi" community. But inadvertently, it has helped in inculcation of pride in this most marginalized of all Dalit communities.
One can say that this was one Sanskritization project, which did benefit vast swath of India's "sweeper"community after giving them a new social dentity by associating them with Hinduism's popular epic of Ramayana. It did dilute little bit of toxic disdain towards this community.
But Valmikizaton also completely erased community's complex, unique enigmatic pre Valmiki Islamized character & culture, where patron saints like Lal Beg & Bala Shah were revered; dead were buried and people had names like Salim & Rukhsana, even though community was not Muslim.
Bhagwandas "Bhangi" a prominent Lal Begi writer, who even met Baba Sahab Ambedkar, resisted Valmikization of his Lal Begi community all his life.Valmikization of Lal Begis is now complete.
We have to now accept Valmiki identity of this most brutalized Dalit community. VALMIKI must however create their own political identity like other Dalit sub castes, which will give them more political bargaining power. Currently, community is not loyal to any political ideology.
Valmiki community is politically fractured &spread over entire North & Central India, which makes their political consolidation under single leadership difficult. But this unfortunately feeds the perception that Valmikis are "weak" and leader less, who can't defend themselves.
Lastly,
Reason why Valmiki community is easy prey to caste based physical &sexualviolence is because most caste opressors know thatValmikis don't have strong political leader, whose fear can act as deterrent.
Rather than being chamcha in other parties,Valmiki must form their own
