A judge today denied the government’s request to revoke the pretrial release of Jan. 6 defendant Russell Taylor, finding they did not meet the “heavy” burden required to keep someone locked up before trial.

U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth said the allegations against Taylor were “serious” and the evidence against him “substantial.” But said the precautions taken — including GPS monitoring — mitigate the government’s concerns.

Judge called Taylor’s conduct "cause for concern” and says it "warrants stringent conditions of pretrial release” but denied motion to lock him up due to the "government’s inability to identify a future threat by clear and convincing evidence.” LINK: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.usco…

Just after the hearing in June, Judge Lamberth indicated the feds were unlikely to succeed. Thread on the argument here:

Here are Russell Taylor’s conditions of release. He’s got a curfew and location monitoring, and he must “refrain from using social media as well as encrypted communication devices or software.” storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.usco…
