Moderator @agnesconstante asking @AGRobBonta about working on data disaggregration bill & how they got pushback. During the pandemic, that data helped them see disparate impacts on Filipino Americans, Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders etc. & helped them address these disparities.
Pretty cool that @AGRobBonta, the first Filipino American state legislator + first Filipino American attorney general, is part of this panel "Why Filipino Americans Count: A Conversation on Disaggregrated Data."
The California Nurse Association's Zenei Triunfo-Cortez talking about how they broke out info on Filipino nurses to find they were disproportionately affected by COVID. If they hadn't done that themselves, no one would've known & it wouldn't have become a national conversation.
RJ Taggueg, director of research, UC Davis Bulosan Center for Filipino Studies,
talks about distrust in community about how data on Filipino Americans has been collected (or not collected) & used in past, but there is a growing number of Filipino Americans doing this equity work
Dr. Melanie Sabado-Liwag, Director of Cal State LA's Masters of Public Health program, talks about the importance of working with community organizations so these problems are addressed in multifaceted ways.
They encourage Filipino Americans to participate in surveys to help them collect this data that is so hard to collect. Here is one: the FILLED Project, which is asking Filipino/a/x Americans to tell them about their experiences during the pandemic.

How cool is it that this panel is being live broadcast on GMA Pinoy TV! Thanks to co-moderators @agnesconstante & @leezeltanglao for a great discussion on the importance of collecting data on Filipino Americans
