Here comes the next review! I chose to explore @sayililli because I heard founder @ilillicharles on @TwitterSpaces during a @SocialAudioNow talk. It's my first experience with short form audio, and I think I get the hype! #socialaudioqueen
/11-Creating an account is easy. They send an email to verify your account & you can use all the features via the app or directly on the web. ❤️ that! When I uploaded my profile pic the aspect ratio was wonky, later when going back into my profile it was corrected!
/11-I went to take a look at the terms of service & community guidelines, but couldn't figure out a way to get back to the screen to finish creating my account, so I closed the app and came back.
/11-Once your account is created the home screen shows the latest "tap" to listen to, and you can scroll trough them all. Taps are 15 second long recordings. Users have an option to add a background photo & a link to the taps they create, which I think is brilliant!
/11-The bottom toolbar is clear. The home screen is where you can listen to taps, you can explore channels to listen to, and browse users to follow. My inbox was or course empty, but after my first tap I could see who liked my tap and who started following me.
/11-I went to my profile, clicked the settings icon & edit profile. I either missed adding a bio during onboarding or you do it here. Being an audio platform, rather than text, I would like to make a tap so when someone clicks my pic they hear my bio, and vice versa.
/11-Time to make my first tap. Oooo, fancy screen🔥 It's easy to make a recording. I will say 15 seconds is tough, I could use 20, but I've been known to be long-winded #guilty You can redo/review before you post, once you're ready you can add a link & photo.
/11-When you post a tap you can add a channel & describe your tap. You have to type in the channel, but I would like to search existing channels to tag my tap to. Once content builds up it will be needed to help navigate the user to taps that will be most interesting to them.
/11-YAY! My first tap! You can like taps, respond to taps, listen to responses, block a user, report a tap & share a tap easily. Once you start listening to taps, they keep filtering through until hitting pause, you can go back to listen, or skip forward. The set-up is nice.
/11-I could get into this short form audio. It's kinda fun to create & hear quick sound bites. The bones of ililli are great so the community will come. What that brings I'm not sure. Will it end up a catch all like TikTok, or more niche?
/11- What will short form audio become? Initial reaction from my ililli experience, a promotion tool. With 15 second taps & a link sometimes it felt like a mini commercial, and if I was interested, I could go to the link. Could it be used for hiring? Hello elevator pitch!
/11-Im not convinced short form audio is a stand alone product, or an additional tool to drive people where you want them to go. Promote your business? Here's what we do, now check us out! I'm still so intrigued & will definitely join ililli again to be a part of the phenomenon
