1/ I have some thoughts about the next phase of NFTs, gaming, social media, and story telling.

Going to try to explain what an Internet Cinematic Universe (ICU) is. Btw you're in one right now.

2/ Story telling has been evolving from fictional worlds into transmedia universes. The most famous example is the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

3/ These universes are now expanding into gaming, the fastest growing and "always on" medium.

Biggest cross-over games:

Left: Fortnite collabs and beyond that @Snowfoot_ and his friend made.
Right: Smash Bros Ultimate story mode overworld.

4/ Now imagine the Internet as a game we're all playing.

Big difference between this and other CU's is that we all have presence / digital real estate here. It is our shared universe we live, work, play in.

5/ Abstract stories help us understand the increasing complexity (intersubjective).

The myths we create are about as interpretive as cloud watching or constellations in the sky, aka bottom-up.

6/ We're now immortalizing our myths (art + memes) onto an immutable public ledger via NFTs. We'll start seeing more 3D NFTs and other file types soon.

In the next few years these ingredients will shape together in other forms like film and games while sharing a common history.

7/ There needs to be a regular cadence to introduce new characters and concepts. MCU has films, Fortnite has seasons with intros and outro story lines, etc.

Those myths are largely designed and controlled from top down, afterall cross-overs are legally expensive.

8/ I think we are getting to the point now where we have enough interesting ingredients we can weave together into a cinematic universe that we all have shared ownership of.

This is what @webaverse has been lately working on: blog.webaverse.com/storyweaving-w….

9/ It's not a shared universe if the characters in one story can't travel to the next. Won't get Avengers that way. Platform lock-in ain't meta.

We're synthesizing a handful of NFT ingredients + lore per season into a virtual production and experience to connect worlds together.

10/ Either we do this or they'll probably do it for us.

11/ This thread is long enough that I'll save the rest for a future blog post. Credits for inspiration:
