Today is Balidan Diwas of a valiant Rajput

Colonel Kunwar Jaideep Singh Salaria

He was born on 18th July 1961 in into a military family to an Army veteran Randhir Singh and Smt Godavari Devi.
He followed into the footsteps of his father and joined the Army.

His father served in World War II and fought for Independence too.
He was shot in both his knees and uprooted from his home in (now) Pakistan
Col Kanwar was commissioned into 6 DOGRA REGT in 1980.
He was later married to Dr Anuradha Rajput, and had a daughter, Aakanksha Salaria.

By 2002, Col Kanwar had put in over twenty years of service and had evolved into a battle-hardened and professionally competent soldier.

He served in various operational areas.
For his exceptional military leadership skills, he was awarded with Shaurya Chakra and Sena Medal.

On 18 Aug 2002, his unit was deployed in Rajouri District of J&K.
His reconnaissance patrol had a chance encounter with a group of armed infiltrators in Nowshera. Col Kanwar immediately swung into action and moved along with his troops to engage and eliminate the terrorists.

During exchange of fire, his troop got injured. He diverted attention of terrorists and moved the injuried soldier to safe place. He came back and in a superbly maneuvered daredevil action, killed 2 terrorists.
However, he was shot in neck and was later succumbed to his injuries.

Col Kanwar Jaideep Singh was given the gallantry award, “Shaurya Chakra” for the second time for his act of valour, unflinching courage and supreme sacrifice.

His daughter is now married to an Infantry Officer.
