Cherished Venezuelan traditions: Yare "Dancing Devils", Llanero music, the pabellón criollo dish and opposition infighting. Here's a thread on how an opposition that's very short on bullets insists on using them on its own feet
After years boycotting elections, with self-proclaimed @jguaido unable to extend his power beyond the lower half of his drinks cabinet and with no US intervention coming to save them, anti-government politicians have been slowly edging back towards electoral participation
A moderate sector with some veteran operators like Claudio Fermín broke w/ the hardliners in 2019, ran in the Dec 2020 legislative elections (not very successfully) and decided to field a unified list for the November 21 "mega-elections"
There were lots of concessions to boost opposition participation, like including 2 anti-govt figures in the National Electoral Council and unblocking the Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD) electoral card. All set for a strong opposition showing in the upcoming elections, right?
Well, no. After rumors that the different factions could not agree on unified candidates, there was a report this week that the MUD's legal representatives (responsible for registering candidates) have decided to quit a few days ahead of the deadline to present candidate lists
Another obstacle is of course self-proclaimed @jguaido and his acolytes who don't wish to run because running a pretend gov't is much more lucrative. And just like that, a strong chance to challenge for a lot of governorships and mayoralties might go up in smoke
The outgoing opp. figures said (this is no joke) that the MUD's username + password were at the service of its member parties. At this point we feel they'd just take any candidates. So if any of our Vzlan followers want to run for governor/mayor please get in touch w/ them 😂
