Our last installment of @MUSCkids Summer Advocacy Lecture Series is this morning.

Today we will be hosted by @OddoDr and are thrilled to have 3 guest speakers discussing how to support transgender youth.

@chase_a_glenn @WeAreFamilyCHS and rockstar youth advocate Eli Bundy.

First up we have Chase Glenn, Director of LGBTQ+ Health Services @MUSChealth

Some population estimates in SC⬇️

50% of LGBTQ+ adults said their doctors didn’t know their gender identity.

LGBTQ+ youth are 2-3x more likely to attempt suicide, more likely to be homeless, higher rates of tobacco, alcohol and drug use.

Our systems are designed to contribute to these disparities. We must address these systems and social determinants of health if we want to address these disparities.

Here is a rundown of what the #scleg was up to this year. Dangerous, dangerous bills for trans youth in SC. These bills will keep coming back so we must keep fighting for the trans youth in SC.

So happy to have @chase_a_glenn here @MUSChealth to help us move forward on this critical issue to support the population we serve.

NBD, they helped lead a lawsuit against the SC Department of Education to provide appropriate sex education in SC.

Eli is also on a health advisory committee for @CCSDConnects.

If they have time for this, what are you doing to make your community and schools a safer place for LGBTQI+ students????

Eli also testified against the “save women’s sports act” that was incredibly harmful to trans youth in SC.

If you are a pediatrician and haven’t testified in your state legislature, find an issue and step up to the plate.

They are right. That’s a low bar. But let’s support trans and queer youth in SC so they know they belong.
