There are many books out there for you to guide your own CPD. Leading Primary Geography is a great overall guide for those who are leading primary geography.

Teaching Primary Geography is a fantastic tool when developing a curriculum full of ideas for fantastic geography across the phases. I am forever loaning it out and recommending to others. @Primageographer

@DolanGalway has released two fantastic books recently. Her most recent book supports teachers with teaching climate change in schools. Full of subject knowledge, the latest research, lesson ideas and tips for teaching about climate change in a way that empowers children.

This is a great book for teachers and trainees alike. @totalgeography Topics covered include: current developments in geography, geography as a practical activity, skills to develop in geography, promoting curiosity and assessment.

The Everyday Guide to Primary Geography series are great to develop a specific area of your curriculum with lots of ideas to take straight into the Primary classroom.

Looking to promote geography across the school?
@RGS_IBG
run an annual Young Geographer of the Year competition. You can a competition alongside this in school and submit your school's winners to this national competition. Our winners receive an atlas.

We often promote inspirational scientists, artists, sports people etc in primary school. Remember to promote inspirational geographers as well!
@geoteachrach has an excellent shared resource pinned to her profile which can help with this. I also love using Earth Heroes.

If you are new to the subject, I recommend a resource audit. Ensure atlases are up to date. I recommend getting a class set of inflatable globes as well if you don't have them already!

If possible, try and ensure that classes have access to books with geographical themes and atlases in book corners and when reading for pleasure. I started a thread with some suggestions last summer.

I recommend this often to geography teachers and leaders. Chimamanda shares her thoughts about if we hear only a single story about another person or country, we risk a critical misunderstanding. This is a vital consideration for all geography teaching.
