6 tips for session planning:

1. Have a clear session topic.

What is the problem you are trying to solve?

2. Where on the pitch does this problem happen in a game?

Create your training session around this area of the pitch. Make it realistic:

3. Think about which players are going to be involved if this scenario happens on a match day.

Set your team out and the opposition. Then start to remove all the players you won't need in your session.

4. Entry & Exit of the ball.

Where will the ball enter and exit the pitch to keep the practice realistic?

Entry: If we're playing out from the back the goalkeeper should start with the ball.

Exit: Where do we want to get the ball to after we play out?

5. Primary players.

Who are the players you want to effect most within your session?

6. Plan the information we want to give to our primary players.

What information do we need them to know to be effective on a game day?

Keep it simple, don't over complicate it.
