You know you can’t have world-beating training in businesses, because of “cheap labour” sloshing around the single market. Right?

So to fix that you must leave the EU?

And well-paid, skilled jobs are therefore a Brexit benefit?

You can. You don’t. They aren’t.

A short 🧵 /1.

Since 1969 the Federal Republic of Germany has operated a highly successful system, which brings business & government together to produce top class training, in a major, dynamic, market economy. Since the early 90s, in the EU Single Market, with the four freedoms. /2.

The four freedoms? To recap: the free movement of goods, services, people & capital. /3.

The training is regulated by law. Covers 330 skilled occupations. And 50% of school leavers, who typically spend 2-3 years in the system, alongside work. /4.

Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg & Denmark operate similar systems. Greece, Portugal, Italy, Slovakia & Latvia are further developing their training arrangements. All are full members of the EU single market. All with full EU freedom of movement. /5.

It’s almost as though EU member states can do great stuff which the UK’s struggled with … forever. And that, far from offering any benefit whatsoever, all the Johnson Brexit does is drive the UK economy into a destructive spiral of stagnation (or recession) & inflation. /6.

Why would anyone want that? Some clues may be found in two factors:

- hardly a politician, or political journalist, has a firm grasp of how the economy works

- a tiny clique may win, big, however bad things get

Better in than out, folks. And Mr Johnson knows it. /7. End
