I have a virology question:

Disclaimer : I’m pro-mask 😷, pro- clean air

Can losing contact with benign rhinitis viruses which may have been dangerous in the past have an effect if any on the risk they cause bad disease again, and after what lag?

Many of us (yet too few) are using masks a lot, being careful with air quality, washing hands more.

We therefore catch many less colds, sore throats, bronchitis, gastroenteritis. Couldn’t it be dangerous in the long run ?

If so can one estimate how long it could take before we lose our immunity towards the common cold / pharyngitis etc. viruses we have learnt to live with, and get severely sick instead?

I suppose we’ll have to drop protections to keep our immune system fit for common viruses, but blunt down select dangerous or controllable viral attacks with vaccines (Covid, Flu …)

Thanks (I’m pro-mask 😷, pro- clean air)
