Struggling...

Dear Energy and Environment Journalists...

Please dont buy Govt leaked or planted stories about massive coal shortage in power plants.

It's a trap to set narrative to amend Coal Bearing Area Acquistion and Development Act 1957 in favor of private coal miners in next session. -2

India's peak demand is still lower than 2.00 Lakh MW.

Peak touches for short time only and average demand is roughly 1.50 Lakh MW considering Night

We have 90000 MW is Solar and Hydel capacity whereas Hydel utilisation in Monsoon is on peak even Solar supplies are up to 75%. -3

So leaving Nuclear etc out of calculation, we would need 1.00 Lakh MW power from Coal TPS.

This requires 500 Milion Ton Coal in an year.

CIL alone producing 600 MT most of which goes to power plant and Singreni another 60 MT n captive blocks.( 716 MT 2020-21)

NO SHORTAGE -4

The narrative of Coal Shortage is being created to create an atmosphere of desperation in which a CB Act Amendment which is highly draconian would be passed in Parliament in next session.

The dilution of Environment and Forest norms would also take place for coal mining. -5

Recently MoEF held up enhancement of capacity of Gevra CIL Mine which is biggest from 45 MTPA to 70 MTPA. The same MoEF has enhanced Adani run PEKB mine from 10MT to 15MT despite FAC denial and case pending in Supreme Court
Efforts to create shortage of coal is for pvt players -6

Here is a reality check.
In August 15% additional coal was produced...

Similar Coal Shortage hoax was busted in 2014... please watch this report...
ndtv.in/videos/news-po…

As per Govt own data production of coal in India in the period of April to September 2021 has increased from 282 Million Ton last year same period to 315 MT showing almost 12% increase.

The shortage if any with TPS is due to supply chain and payment reasons.

India has 46 GW Hydel Power capacity and we have a normal to excess monsoon this year

44 GW Solar Power
39 GW Wind Power

So 129 GW Power capacity other than polluting coal in a country which has less than 200 GW demand

Yet this Coal dependency n shortage..in whose interest??

An interesting data

September 2020 Thermal Power Generation in India was 85, 988 GWH
In Sep 2021 its
85, 404 GWH ...

In the same period Coal Offtake from CIL is
Sep 2020 - 46.7 MT
Sep 2021 - 48.3 MT

Yet this Coal Shortage !! ??
