The Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners oversee the management and operation of the Port of Los Angeles. Harbor commissioners are appointed by the Mayor of Los Angeles and confirmed by the Los Angeles City Council. They serve five-year terms.

Seroka grew up in Slidell, La. His parents worked in the airline industry, his father in marketing for American Airlines and his mother as a flight attendant.

His first overseas posting was in China from 1999-2003, before LA Mayor Garcetti tapped him to lead the L.A. port.

In 2014 Gene’s goals were to “maintain the port’s premier position in the US, while ɢʀᴏᴡɪɴɢ ᴄᴀʀɢᴏ ᴛʀᴀꜰꜰɪᴄ.
