Report back from supportive bloc party for houseless folks, about 40 showed with food, music and literature. Vikki Payne called a protest to harass and annoy campers to get them to leave. Vikki cancelled their event due to supportive bloc party. Some NIMBY's still showed
1/
Upon arrival, police were watching from 2 blocks away and talking to one of the NIMBYs(about 10min)sharing photos. Ironically the dude had plates from out of state (see later tweet) and they were blocking traffic.People were turning around because they weren't paying attention
2/
About a 8 NIMBY's showed, only 1 of them lived in the area of concern. A similar number of people supporting the houseless debated with NIMBY's for hours. They appeared to make up or exaggerate grievances. Main concern: blocks emergency vehicles. You can see that is false 3/
When contradicted with obvious open road, the concern would change to crime, but had no evidence that people in RV committed crime. They pointed out that removed "no parking signs" was illegal, but put up fake "no parking" signs in parking areas & one on RVs with threats 4/
They desperately argued that they weren't anti-homeless & know they need to sleep somewhere, but not right here. They had no suggestion on where they should go. "Only the 2 RVs were the issue because blocked traffic"& would talk in circles again. Guy said NIMBY was "divisive"
5/
Guy came to support housed neighbors because the flyer called it "fasc organized antihomeless block party", in which he disagreed. Some of us agreed this was poor wording because they were obviously liberal NIMBY's,but they sure did use all the PPA and right wing talking points
6/
We all agreed that the city gov was the issue and needed to provide a solution. This was a contradiction, then why come fuck with houseless folks. Only 1 of them had actually talked to those in RV.They also brought up dead animals as a problem multiple times, which was strange 7/
One houseless person that has been on the streets since they were 10yrs old shared how they deeply appreciated the support. That if people havn't been in her shoes, they should speak or judge. (Only audio) 8/
The NIMBY Organizer also spreading lies about 30 blac clad with sticks. Neither are true, this came from someone else on next door. There wasn't even any confrontation, actually except from one of theirs. They expected the police to do something because they were uncomfortable
9/
This NIMBY got flustered, shoved someone and said, "what are you gonna do, call the police"? I bluffed and said "I will" and they got in thier car and left. Another NIMBY also tried to get a car towed while we were there.
10/
Overall a successful event, that was chill with alot of stimulating conversation. Pizza was delivered and everyone was fed. 11/
