Science and maths peer mentoring in schools

In honor of #MathsWeek, we are stocked to have In2science mentor, Raskmikka from @Swinburne take over our Twitter for #TakeoverThursday!

Rashmikka is an Applied Mathematics student who is going to talk about how important maths is in our daily lives 🧮👩‍💼 @MathsPathway @GWOMaths

Hi everyone, I am Rashmikka and I am here to tell you if you thought you wouldn’t use Maths in life, think again!

Maths is in every career you can think of, including my goal job growing up...an ice-cream truck driver. That uses a lot of Maths too! 📊🍦

Maths is often deemed useless or too hard but that’s not true! 🧠

When you think about it, different numbers, equations, and functions were used to make just about everything around us! ⚛️🧮

And who says it has to be boring? Colourful highlighters make everything better 🌈

Maths also saves lives!

Did you know that the channel island foxes were once endangered? 🦊

Using mathematical equations, experts could predict population growth, come up with solutions to prevent extinction, and increase the population of endangered species! 🥳

On the 25/10, we celebrate the birthday of a famous French mathematician, Évariste Galois, who solved a 350-year-old algebraic equation, which we still use today, known as group theory!

Évariste contributed a lot to Mathematical society and was also a political activist ✊

To finish off my post I have a sneaky poll for you guys! What do you think is the answer to this mathematical equation? (Poll in next comment)

What do you think the answer is to the above mathematical equation? 🤔

I hope you guys have learned something today and appreciate the wonderful thing that is Maths. It’s a beautiful thing to see numbers come together and hope you have been enlightened! 🥳🧮
