Johannesburg Mayor Mpho Moerane is today launching the City’s energy mix at the John Ware Substation in Fordsburg
MMC for environment and infrastructure services, Tania Oldjohn says today is about taking loadshedding and load reduction head on. “As government we have the responsibility to ensure citizens of this city have access to reliable electricity”
Oldjohn says the energy mix will reduce the city’s reliance on Eskom, mitigate loadshedding and ensure Johannesburg’s economy functions well.
Moerane is now on the podium. The city met with Eskom to find a common ground on mitigating loadshedding. He says the discussed excluding the city from stage 1 and 2 of loadshedding due to the additional power the city has secured
Moerane says this is not electioneering it is the results of work by officials at City Power. He says the city’s relationship with Eskom is difficult due to prolonged power cuts especially in areas where there is load reduction
Moerane explains how they are going to produce an additional 100 megawatts of electricity at the John Ware substation using gas turbines. He says requests for information from IPPs will kick off on Friday followed by requests for proposals
Moerane explains how the tender process for the IPPs will work
