Mini thread of a Palestinian thobe collection I was taught about today, starting with this one: this thobe from al-Lydd is from when married women would stitch some fabric from their husband’s clothing on to theirs

This thobe is from the Ramallah area, the rooster is a symbol rooted in early Christian heritage (think the Church of Saint-Peter in Gallicantu which is Latin for Rooster’s crow)

This pattern was typically found in the south/Beer al Sabe’ area, in Arabic it was referred to as خيم الباشا or the Pasha’s tent, recently it was more likely to be referred to as كعب الكوباية or coasters

Regarding the Christian imagery I should add that there were thobes like this one from Bethlehem adorned with the cross

I asked if this one was from the Jerusalem villages bc it reminded me of my grandmother and they said yes. The head covering they didn’t have physically but it’s from my family’s village, my dad says his grandmother had one just like it

Don’t quote me on this bc I’ve forgot and can’t double check until tomorrow but I believe these are from the Gaza area (al-Majdal, Ascalan, Isdod)
