Syria was one of the first countries to adhere to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons in 1969;
Signed the Convention on Prohibition of the Development, Production & Stockpiling of Biological Weapons in 1972;
In 2013 acceded to the Chemical Weapons Convention.
