@kunalb11 Hey Kunal, you should come and spend some time at Second Chance House at our family’s heritage Selim Hill Tea Garden in Darjeeling.
Here’s a small thread about Selim Hill and our journey to revive it.
@kunalb11 Perched at 4,000 ft, Selim Hill was established as a tea garden in 1872. Next year marks it’s 150th anniversary. It’s been with our family for many generations, but due to the pandemic it was on the verge of collapse.
Here are a few pictures from the backyard of the house.
@kunalb11 TLDR- we began @DorjeTeas as a subscription based D2C brand for making Darjeeling Tea affordable and cool in India; and The Selim Hill Collective for the ecological revival of the garden.
Over the last 2 years we’ve been working on this, based out of the tea garden itself.
@kunalb11 @DorjeTeas That’s the Hawa Ghar at the house from where you can see Nepal on one corner, Sikkim on the other, & 5 rivers, the valley, & the forest in between.
A truly inspirational sight where we want to host writers retreats and artist residencies very soon!
@kunalb11 @DorjeTeas You can trek through the Selim Hill Forest, or discover a stream, or just sit and read inside the house!
@kunalb11 @DorjeTeas If you’re lucky you might get to see some hornbills as well!
Here’s a video of a spotting from the same Hawa Ghar you saw earlier. You can hear us ecstatic— there is after all nothing that beats a hornbill sighting!

We had a spotting of it in the summer, a stones throw away from the house.

Not to mention the Christmas lights!
