1/. #DidITellYouAboutTheTime I saved @wyclef's life?

It was in 2005, & I was in the stalls of a packed Hammersmith Apollo to see the Fugees reunion gig

@MsLaurynHill came out & did a solo of Lost Ones

Then @PrasMichel joined her & they did How Many Mics

But where was Wyclef?

2/. Before I go on, I should say that the pics (from the gig) are by Tabitha Fireman tabathafireman.com

This was the days when no one pulled out a smart phone during a gig 'cos smart phones didn't exist

But if anyone DOES have footage, please share

It would help the story

3/. I should also say I thought it was a stonking show, unlike @TheCSullivan who gave it this 2-star review!

She also describes @wyclef as being "avuncular" that night

"Avuncular" wouldn't have been my adjective of choice

I'd have gone for "out of it"!

4/. Wyclef was clearly "on one" from the moment he strutted onto the stage

His singing was erratic & his monologues incoherent (one was a "gansta" rant about guns)

Then, in the middle of doing a solo song (Take It Easy), he walked off the stage still singing down his roving mic

5/. Wyclef disappeared for a little, still singing

Then suddenly the doors to the balcony, near to where me & my girlfriend were sitting, burst open & there was @wycleff tailed by a large somewhat bemused minder

Being on the end of the aisle, we walked down to Row 1 to join him

6/. Wyclef started making his way along the row

The spotlight on him

His bouncer in tow

Me & my girlfriend in front of him

The audience below in the stalls twisting their necks to watch

Then - in one swift move - he leapt onto the edge of the balcony

7/. Wyclef was standing on the
balustrade - which was only three inches wide - 30 feet above the crowded stalls

His minder was standing, dumbed

Instinctively, I slipped two fingers into one of the belt loops of his jeans & held onto him as he was swaying unsteadily back & forth

Wyclef was probably only up there for 30 seconds but it felt much longer

I still remember the feeling of taking his weight

If it hadn’t been for my 2 fingers he might have fallen

If anyone took photos/film please share

& @wyclef, next time you're in London, you owe me a pint
