The world lost a legend today.

Here are six ways that Betty White proved she was the biggest legend around.

A thread 🧵

Early in her career, Betty was told she was too “unphotogenic” to make it in Hollywood.

She proved all her doubters wrong, landing a role in television.

She went on to win nearly thirty awards and land dozens more nominations over the next 60 years.

When Betty White fell in love with Allen Ludden, it was for life.

After he passed away when she was fifty nine, she never remarried. When asked why, she famously said “Once you’ve had the best, who needs the rest?”

Betty didn’t just break records — she shattered them.

She had the longest career of any woman in television.

She’s also the first woman to win an Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Game Show Host.

In 1954, Betty White had Arthur Duncan on her show.

At the time, she was heavily criticized for having a Black tap dancer as a co-star.

Her response?

To give him more airtime and tell everyone to “Live with it.”

In 1952, Betty White became one of the first women to have control in front of and behind the camera.

She did it by producing and starring in Life With Elizabeth, a critically acclaimed TV show.

It’s not well known, but Betty loved animals and fought her entire life to protect them.

She regularly turned down any roles where any type of animal abuse was involved in the script.

The USDA Forest Service even made her an honorary forest ranger.

Rest easy, Betty.
