🚨BREAKING🚨 The U.S. Navy confirmed it will comply with the Department of Health order to turn in a plan within 30 days outlining how they plan to REMOVE the hundreds of millions of gallons of fuel still stored in the Red Hill facility!

THIS ISN'T OVER - not by a long shot. The @USNavy will likely continue to drag their feet on defueling AND will try to "fix" the Red Hill Facility. As we know, the entire Red Hill fuel storage system is beyond repair. We will continue to demand they permanently #ShutDownRedHill

Mahalo to everyone around the world who contributed your voices and your mana to this growing movement to protect water. We still need you. The US Military and the ruling class will use this moment to try to lull us into complacency. For wai's sake, we can't allow that to happen.

A key part of the Emergency Order requires the Navy "determine design and operational deficiencies" as well as "implement corrective actions". This means the Navy can "improve" Red Hill and still be in compliance with the order, despite the facility being beyond "improving".

According to the @HawaiiDOH hearing officer, the Red Hill Facility is a "ticking timebomb" that presents an "imminent peril to human health and safety". The Navy will try to simply adjust the timer on that timebomb by a few minutes and claim they've solved the underlying problem.

Engineering consultant for @BWSHonolulu David Norfleet stated that the Red Hill tanks are entering an "end of life phase". Even double-lining the tanks would be an insufficient response - much like fitting a second N95 mask on a COVID patient who needs to be put on a ventilator.

The only acceptable course of action after defueling the decrepit Red Hill tanks is what O‘ahu Water Protectors have always insisted is the only safe option: #ShutDownRedHill.
PERMANENTLY.
No more equivocation.
No more half-measures.
No more band-aids over bullet wounds.

This is just the Beginning of a new stage in the struggle to protect our water.

This is the Beginning of a joyful resistance to free the Moanalua-Waimalu aquifer and ALL the waters of O‘ahu.

This is the Beginning of the End of US military and corporate abuse of wai.
