My husband Abilio Ramos M.D. passed away on Jan 9th, after being taken to the ICU on the 28th at Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks CA. When he got there he described it as a "war zone" sitting for hours before finding him in a bed in the ICU, I was not allowed to be with him.
Dr. Ramos served his community for 35 years as a small town family practice doctor in T.O. CA and as the the medical director at Cal Lutheran University
At one time he worked at Los Robles Hospital assisting in surgeries, most of the doctors and nurses knew him at the hospital
After President Ronald Reagan passed away Dr. Ramos became the personal physician to the Ronald Reagan secret service personal for many years, along with maintaining his busy private practice in Thousand Oaks CA.
Dr. Ramos was born in Havana, Cuba to Pedro and Edelmira Ramos. When Abilio was born he was a “Blue Baby” and was not expected to live, no one was willing to be Godparent to him. Finally a Family Practice Doctor his parents knew agreed to be his Godfather when he was a year old.
Abilio always looked up to this kind man and credited him with his decision to go into medicine.
At age 6 Abilio and parents were evacuated from communism in Cuba thru the Angel Flight evacuations, sent to Spain to live for short time leaving behind everyone and all belonging
When Abilio was 7 he was put on a plane alone to go to America and was taken in by strangers until his parents arrived, he was without his parents for 7 months. His parents who didn’t speak English settled in California where his dad worked as a mechanic and his mom in a factory
His family bought a small home, "The American dream" and saved enough money to send Abilio to Norte Dame Catholic High School
Abilio attend USC graduating Phi Beta Kappa and attended UC San Francisco for medical school. he
completed his residency at UCLA- Santa Monica Hospital
He worked for his dad on weekends as a mechanic and at a lab during the summers and was able to attend USC graduating Phi Beta Kappa and attended UC San Francisco for medical school.
He completed his residency at UCLA- Santa Monica Hospital.
He opened his practice starting his long journey of providing loving care to generations of families. He spent time with his patients, called them friends. When a patient presented a difficult medical problem he research for hours coming up with the correct life saving diagnosis
Dr. Ramos and his patients loved each other. appointments never rushed, Abilio telling jokes to his patients with laughter down the hall. His staff was three loyal hard working women, Jane 27 years, Sarah 20 years, April 16 years.
“They made a great team”
As his wife with a PhD in the specialized field of Sexual and Mental health, we worked with many of the same patients using a "whole person approach" to heal them, we made a great team.
I witnessed first hand the love and passion he put into his profession.
He was passionate about restoring old sports cars, remote cars, remote planes and guns, he could fix anything
He was an accomplished sailor for 25 years, our boat "Lady Liberty", sailing was his therapy.
He leaves behind 2 sons Christopher, and Jordin, and daughter Sydnee
My husband was the only doctor in town providing preventative care for Covid, he worked with a small compound pharmacy to get Ivermectin. He kept hundreds of his patients out of the ICU.
Only 9 ended up at the hospital, all came home because he managed their care 24/7.
Pictures of my husband at the hospital before he died. He was give remdesiver and it slowly shut down his kidney.
My husband believes in vaccines, flu shot every year. When Covid Vaxx came out, he took a hard pause, said there was no "honeymoon period" not FDA approved. He did not agree or disagree with Vaxx just gave info to patients to decide.
Except for pregnant woman and teens, hard NO.
I am out of the hospital for a few days now and rapidly recovering. My lugs are back at 90% thank God.
