1/ Woke up feeling 🌶 today. Time for a long🧵 using government data/stats and credible opinions. First off, here’s our NL government using a guilt trip on children/parents, implying that in order for a child to bake cookies with Grandma, she needs to be vaccinated.
2/ A few points: 1) If the 💉 prevents the 🦠 from spreading to family and friends as they claim, why are we smashing old case records in a province 97.8% (eligible) that have at least 1 💉? 2) Why are we messaging to our kids that they are a danger to others who have been 💉?
3/ Now…the argument you’ll hear online is: “the 💉 was never intended to stop spread (lie, they’re still saying that, see Gov. Ad above), it was intended to reduce severity of illness and it is working to do that.” Okay? BUT that inherently means that mandates are nonsensical.
4/ As you’ll see above, the cases per 100K in multiple provinces are actually HIGHER in the double vaccinated. To my point: mandates/passports are clearly not “stopping the spread.” Are they even reducing it if CIR per 100,000 is actually higher? Are they worth it? @Golden_Pup
5/ Digging further, we see the same data trends in Alberta stats. See photo.
Double vaxxed case rates per 100,000=175.9.
Rate per 100,000 for Unvaxxed= 126.1.
Rate even in the TRIPLE vaxxed=74 (over half the rate of people unvaxxed). Given this current data: justify mandates.
6/ The notion that an individuals choice to vaccinate is a “civic duty” to protect others and that we should segregate the unvaxxed in order to do this is blatantly false and dangerous rhetoric. It DID NOT work, yet politicians and public health double down on this notion?
7/ Furthermore: How DARE politicians elected to serve their 🇨🇦 people issue statements such as the one above? ESPECIALLY when this 💉 campaign was supposed to be our gateway out of this and we’re one of the most vaccinated countries in the world? Those un💉 are to blame for this?
8/ as per the 📸 above: If 71% of your cases are fully vaxxed, if 74% of the hospitalizations are even in the fully 💉💉, if 58% of ICU admissions are 💉💉, if 47% of deaths are also fully 💉💉, HOW DARE YOU publically say that you will consciously make unvaxxed lives difficult?
9/ Shifting gears. If these are the stats currently in NL (keeping in mind we’re one of the most 💉💉 provinces), how are we imposing more restrictions? Now I’ll compound that question in the next tweet with a photo of NL’s INFLUENZA data in previous years. Refer to both.
10/ during ONE WINTER in 2018, NL recorded 270 hospitalizations, 63 ICU, and 27 deaths from the flu. 27 deaths in one winter. I’m not minimizing this, BUT, in 2 years we have had 24 covid deaths. 270 flu hospitalizations in 1 winter? Yet we restrict now due to 8 covid hosp.
11/ Again, I am by no means minimizing death and heartache. But what about the trickle-down effects of these restrictions on EVERYONES quality of life and mental health, even AFTER “doing our part” and getting heavily vaccinated? Yet our Gov. still restricts us?
12/ Justify how exactly a passport/mandate is STILL necessary given all this data? If outbreaks are happening in fully vaxxed hospital staff, HOW ON EARTH, is it that the unvaxxed healthy staff are a particular danger in transmission. Justify your decisions. Take accountability.
13/ To venture down this dystopian hellscape further, provinces are considering allowing fully vaxxed POSITIVE healthcare workers to use PPE and return to work, BUT, unvaccinated healthy NEGATIVE covid staff like myself, sit at home unpaid, demoralized, and betrayed. Unions????
14/ Now. Here’s Dr. Haggie stating that: “It’s been so long since we had five or more patients in hospital.” IS THAT SO? You’re telling me in one of the most 💉💉 provinces, it is necessary for us to restrict further, when in a regular flu season we have 270 hospitalizations?
15/ To finalize this 🧵: We have successfully shifted our health paradigm towards a collectivist pseudo-“civic duty” argument even in a province with outcomes LESS than that of a previous flu. Bravo 👏🏻 We’re all in this together though, right? 2 years later, what’s changed?
16/ Ultimately as a nurse, I fight for a silver-lining. I advocate for informed consent & FULL bodily autonomy, FREE of coercion from our public representatives. I sit at home unpaid with a knife in my back, as I’ve given so much of myself to my career in my 4 short years. ✊🏻🇨🇦🩺
