Students and parents lined up to speak out against removing books from Granbury ISD libraries. This was the response from the superintendent.

Looks like we are being called gaslighters and radicals. Projection perhaps?

When Granbury ISD is looking to “review books”, here is the list they are looking at. It’s 125 books directly from the Krause list (you have to assume they were the ones GISD had from the full list) and 5 I guess they stumbled upon. (1/2)

We know that’s where the “book review” starts. But where does it go from here? The board last night changed the Local board policy to allow them to pull books off the shelf prior to a review process, making it a restriction for all kids, not just for a parent who complains.

.@mentack read the district’s policy to them on the requirements for removing books. They changed the policy later in the meeting to allow them to remove books prior to a review, and for all kids, not just a parent with a concern.

This is me, addressing the board, trying to draw connections between the people advocating for banning books being the same ones attempting to tear down public education, and we are apparently willingly running down the path those folks want us on.

And because I talked too much to fit into one tweet, here are the second part of my comments to the Granbury ISD school board, who are looking to remove books from school library shelves, following the Krause list (and perhaps more).

I’ve cut all of the above into one video. Please watch and share.

Shining the light is important.

As this continues, today they started pulling more books from the High School. “They” in the second paragraph = Superintendent.

You know those kids who spoke at the school board meeting and lit things up? They are embracing what they were called, “radicals” and “gaslighters”.

They created shirts, and 100% of the proceeds will go to the Freedom to Read Foundation. #FReadom customink.com/fundraising/im…
