Why not, let's take a look at some of the plays from the Purdue Minnesota game #BoilerUp
I think part of what makes Sasha a good post entry passer is the quickness he does it at. He barely hesitates before firing it into Edey who got position early
Miss communication leads to a 3, have you heard that before
Not sure if Ivey was trying to hedge and just got beat or if there was no call out about a switch. Either way, someone needs to vocalize whether a switch is occurring or not
When Hunter made this, you knew he was going to have a good day
Gillis was in good positioning, and then his first move was to overhelp in the paint. If he does not take this step, his man most likely does not get a shot off
The patience here by Ivey. He lulls the defense to sleep and then finds his opening and attacks. He has shown real improvement in change of speed in transition
Ethan Morton says no
Tre is aggressive going for the steal. Sasha and Ethan both do a good job of rotating over for the help
Minnesota goes zone here, but Purdue is still able to easily find Edey
Defense collapses on Edey and he makes the nice kickout to Hunter.
Tough to defend Purdue when Edey can score like he has been but also make kick outs like this
I really liked Edey on this possession, and it was a good team possession overall
Hunter able to get through the 1st screen and the ball goes to the roll man. Edey does a good job showing a more on the 2nd ball screen forcing a pass again. Edey helps on the drive then recovers
Look at this, Hunter gives the ball up to Ivey so that Purdue can get into their primary action in transition. This has been happening a lot more. Ivey will get a drag screen from the big and create
Another drive showing great patience by Ivey
Simple weave action into Sasha setting a downscreen for Hunter. Defense is expecting Hunter to get the handoff from Tre, but instead he cuts backdoor for the wide open layup. Great design to get a lot of space available for the backdoor
Purdue was forcing a lot of pull ups jumpers in this game
Look at Hunter though, he deflects the pass which allows Ivey to fully recover and contest the shot
Hunter has had so much energy on this end of the floor lately
Feels like Purdue is getting into the ball handler more before the screen comes. Makes it a little easier to get through and recover like Thompson did here
Ivey completely turns his back on his defender. #22 was not a perimeter threat so there was no real need to cheat over that way
It made me laugh very hard when Minnesota called an iso after Edey switched, only for Edey to keep up with the guard and completely glass him.
Leads to a classic Hunter to Sasha transition 3 pointer
Purdue was wanting to switch all guard to guard screens, and here Hunter gets lost on it.
Having Edey is a big plus for guard to guard screens because nobody is going to want to get to the rim against him.
1. Look at Hunter's energy from the start to the end. He is Purdue's best defender
2. Edey has been playing way higher than normal this game on screens. Works well when there is not a true post threat
3. Sasha does a good job keeping his man in front and contesting
Tre has been struggling on offense lately, but he can still be a positive on the defensive end. He gives such a different look than Edey. He shows two ball screens in a row, both allowing the guard to get back
Hoping he gets going again soon, because he will be needed on defense
If Purdue starts switching Edey or playing him up more, I expect this to happen everytime.
Minny gets the switch for Edey onto their 4 who can handle. Their guard then sets the screen on Edey and pops. It will put a lot of pressure on Edey to make a decision quick
Great hustle and recovery by Furst. Has to show help on Edey's guy on the perimeter, and then got back to his man to force a pull up jumper
Purdue lives with the pull up rather than an open 3 everytime
The following possession and Furst is hustling again, refusing to be boxed out and getting the second chance points
Mandatory Jaden Ivey athleticism play
This play shows how dominant Edey has been
He catches it 12 feet from the basket and takes one dribble. Because of the one dribble, Minnesota doubles off of Sasha, one of the best 3 point shooters in the Big Ten
Crazy
With Hunter's emergence like this, there will always be 4 shooters on the floor with Edey or Tre. Good job by Hunter finding the (wide) open area of the court
Great read by Ivey. He set it up by waiting for the bottom defender to go to Sasha more
Quick and confident work by Tre. He gets to his spot and does not hesitate putting it up
Hoping the end of this game gives Tre the jump start he needs. Once again he seemed very confident getting it up, and did not short arm it at all. Seems like he was shooting this one more instead of throwing it
Why not, have yourself a game Eric Hunter
Hunter's defender has to sag in to help on a possible Tre post up. If you are open, Tre will find you
