The filing was noted by Trademark attorney Josh Gerben who tweeted that McDonald’s had submitted the trademark applications on 4 February.
One of the trademark applications was for ‘operating a virtual restaurant featuring actual and virtual goods’...
...and ‘operating a virtual restaurant online featuring home delivery.'
The American fast-food chain has not overlooked Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) either, filing trademarks for ‘virtual food and beverage products’ as well as ‘downloadable multimedia files containing artwork, text, audio and video files and non-fungible tokens’ 😳
This would enable the restaurant chain to provide ‘downloadable multimedia files’ for artwork, audio and video files, and nonfungible tokens (NFT).
McDonald’s also included its McCafe brand in its metaverse trademark application.
This would enable the branded virtual destination to host sponsored concerts or appearances by celebrities who are fast embracing the world of experiential NFTs.
These virtual concerts supposedly eliminate geographical barriers and pandemic restrictions.
Most recently, Paris Hilton hosted a NYE party in the metaverse 🥂
And, of course, there are the weddings too...
McDonald’s is not alone in its efforts to enter the metaverse.
Just last week, the American bakery-cafe chain, Panera Bread, submitted a similar trademark application for a virtual restaurant and cafe chain called ‘Paneraverse’.
‘I think you’re going to see every brand that you can think of make these filings within the next 12 months,’ Gerben told Forbes.
