The NAF may want to house its Jeffs and A-29s in hardened aircaft shelters rather than tarpoline tents. It will provide protection from not only attacks by conventional weapons but from high wind and other elemental harzards, lest we suffer the fate of the Chadian AF in 2017

In the morning of 1 July 2017 the Chadian air force included two MiG-29 fighter, six Su-25 attack aircraft, six Fennec helicopters, two Pilatus RC- 7, three Mi-24V, two Mi-17, four Mi-171, six Eurocopter AS550C2 and two Aerospatiale SA316B Alouette III. MiG-29, Su-25 and An-26.

By 4:15 PM the Chadian Air Force no longer existed ( in practical terms) after a sandstrom nearly wiped out the Chadian air force. High wind and heavy rain inflicted significant damage to 70% of Chadian air force aircrafts stationed at N’Djamena air base.

Chad had a fleet of six Fennec helicopters. All six helicopters were totally destroyed in the storm.

Chad had two MiG-29 fighters in operation. They were both severely damaged with debris as hangars collapsed over them.

Of Chads fleet of four Su-25s attack jets (all piloted by Ukrainian mercenaries), two were badly damaged.

Other aircafts damaged includes half a dozen Mi-8/17 helicopters, several SA 330B Pumas, half a dozen Mi-24s, two PC-12, and a PC-7.

These losses effectively put the Chadian air force out of action. Luckily the U.S. military rushed to help the Chadians rebuild.
