Pics: 2022 mid success celebrations
In 2020/2021, I collaborated with 15 scholars including @jessica_armooh to educate applicants on how to tell better stories in their scholarship applications. 11+ people secured ~$600K in total funding
Here are few things I discovered. THREAD
3 out of 4 of the candidates above did not make it this far in previous years
Reason: They had FORGOTTEN key details of their stories
Solution: They went through multiple rounds of REFLECTIONS and reimagined their stories. Now, they are a step ahead.
Some of these reflections took hours across days and weeks.
What problem did I solve/situation did I improve?
What did I do about it?
What was the impact and result?
These were the REFLECTION pointers they adopted in the context of the requirements of the Chevening Secreteriat.
The BEST people do not necessarily win. Pretty much unfair🙄
@Elkobby once posted a thread about being good at what you do and advocating for yourself
It’s painful to see a talker eat the cake of a doer, only because the doer did not practice self advocacy.
Having built 100s of résumés with my team at @ProductivityOpt, contributed to securing ~$600K in scholarship funding, negotiated salaries up by 25% and helping Ghanaians in Ghana secure 6 figure $ jobs, I can say that everything begins from your Receipts.
What are your receipts?
They are evidence of your work. Your Setbacks, Achievements and Learnings in any space.
Keeping receipts always prepares for any opportunity (Jobs/Scholarships)
They boost your confidence at work to negotiate for better benefits or advance your career.
Unfortunately your brain can only do so much to recall all your receipts.
In the face of an opportunity, you may not have hours to REFLECT. Actually, opportunities have no pre-announcements.
And then they slip through our fingers. I have been there but never again.
I am building @theMandEapp with my team to eliminate the pain associated with losing opportunities because you have no receipts.
Build stories for your Appraisals, Promotions, Job Hunts, Scholarships.
Don’t let a talker eat your cake.
