for a while i was looking at how the OSINT community handles this. and it's a point where it's easy to put a thumb on the scale:

- providing one-sided info
- providing correct info and piggy-backing a skewed message on the back of it

3/
providing information to OSINT community has outsized impact: multiple people listen in and then re-publish to their own channel. rapidly, and often copying the language used.

thus providing early interpretation & opinion to OSINT community has outsized narrative-making power

4/
this effect is magnified by to dearth of organic open source intelligence material, especially from the Ukr side. in the vacuum, any crumb of information is picked up quickly and put to use.

5/
this effect is further magnified by intense reactions to any news. many people are emotionally invested, and also feel tribal allegiance.

6/
this effect is even further magnified by simplified, unified language used. the repeated appearance of same words & phrases across channels makes an artificial impression of being part of a crowd, with everybody repeating it.

likewise with similar visuals & scripts of videos.

7/
all in all, what little gets provided to OSINT community and goes public from there usually makes big splash.

8/
recommend:
- support people fighting for their own freedom
- remember that rapidly repeating freely provided information gives it outsized impact
- especially if you carry over the same language

many a civil war focuses on taking over central TV, radio, newspapers.

for a while i was wondering - now that the internet is the dominant medium, what is the modern equivalent?

just as the internet consists of *its organization*, rather than specific centralized electronics room of TV or printing press,

the invading forces would be forces of *taking over an organization from inside*. their coordination would be of timing & language of tweets.

a lot of propaganda is simply to distract you from what's important.

there's pandemic lockdownerism, there's supreme justice pick, and other key events. and then there's China's unduly large influence:

the media lie the most by omission, and propaganda facilitates that by stealing focus. pay attention to domestic politics.

the attached post is schizo - and yet the list of concerns is important. add to it SCOTUS judge nomination and trucker convoy driving towards D.C.

quick notes on devlopments in OSINT community. only a vague description, not hard examples. i didn't do a deep dive but rather got curious while reading up on other concern:

- new identities establishing themselves as authoritative sources, backed up by reporting from (...)

there's many reasons propaganda in the west works along the lines it does.

a deep dive into the current propaganda

tired: propaganda lies about what to do, we need do the exact opposite.

wired: propaganda lies about where the inherent natural division is.
we shall not break off with people that are natural friends & allies, we shall not ally with opponents. #dmutc
