In 2019 Keir Starmer made 10 pledges to the Labour membership that essentially promised, if he were elected, a continuation of 'Corbynism' aka democratic socialism.

It got him elected leader of the Party.

Here's a thread on how he has broken each pledge. 🧵

#StarmerOut

2021 budget, Starmer opposed a raise on corporation tax giving his now infamous formula “now is not the time to raise taxes on families and businesses.”

During the pandemic at least 24 people became billionaires.

It is always a good time to raise taxes on the rich.

Rather than abolish Universal Credit, Labour announced in August 2021 they would “replace” i.e., rebrand UC.

No announcement has been made for the restoration of £20 UC pandemic uplift.

With rising energy and food bills, 20 quid right now would really help out.

Hitting a cyclist with his SUV, running away from young climate activists and calling for an injunction banning climate protests disrupting oil facilities Starmer has shown his true (non-green) colours.

A Spy Cops Bill allowing undercover cops to commit murder causes concern among human rights lawyers and victims who unknowingly bore children to cops. Starmer whips MPs to abstain.

MPs critical of NATO silenced. Says NATO & Russian aggression “false equivalence.” Pope disagrees.

Asked to “raise your hands if you’re in favour of re-nationalising water and electricity” during a hustings for the Labour leadership, Starmer duly did. But in 2022 told LBC “I’m not in favour of nationalisation.”

Later says the two are "Worlds apart".🤔

Keir whipped Labour lords to abstain in vote for government to comply with Refugee Convention.

Said government plan to send migrants to Rwanda was “desperate” and would “cost tax payers billions of pounds”, failing to mention migrant rights.

Starmer was a human rights lawyer.

Oliver Eagleton author of new book 'The Starmer Project' on the broken pledges: "Maybe the most heart-rending one is the Green New Deal the fact that now rather than a state led programme of nationalisation in the service of rapid decarbonisation Starmer has bought into...

...this disastrous market driven programme of green transition where all the funding comes the private sector and they're basically expected to innovate such that the climate threat is obviated. I think that's maybe the clearest example of how Starmer's abandonment of...

...his Ten Pledges is made to throttle the labour left to make sure that none of their policies will see the light of day, as part of this ongoing factional war within the party even a the expense of the planet itself."

“So it’s right that corporation tax isn’t rising this year or next. Of course in the long run corporation tax should go up. The decade-long corporation tax experiment by this government has failed.”

But why not tax them during a pandemic? These seems like an excuse when you consider: "Research from IPPR and Common Wealth has shown that the profits of the UK’s largest non-financial companies were up 34 percent on pre-pandemic levels. tribunemag.co.uk/2022/06/dont-b…
