200 episodes, over 40 attacks (plus variations) and a whole slew of notes and trivia. Please enjoy… Sailor Moon Attacks: A Thread.

Sailor Moon’s unnamed sonic blast attack is used twice in the series. First being used in Ep 001.

The sonic blast attack is used for the second and final time in Ep 153, both Sailor Moon and ChibiMoon are able to use the attack (one of the few attacks multiple characters can preform).

Moon Tiara Action is Sailor Moon’s most used (and possibly iconic) attack. It is used 38 times throughout all 5 seasons. First used in Ep 001 and last used in Ep 184.

Ep 004 updates the stock footage of Moon Tiara Action with a different background (that matches Sailor Moon’s general color-theme).

Moon Tiara Action is slightly updated in Ep 114, reflecting Sailor Moon’s Cosmic Power upgrade. The new footage is only used once.

One final note on Moon Tiara Action, it is show to have the most variety as an attack. It is able to bind monsters, shock them, become non-lethal and even has a pizza upgrade!

Moon Tiara Stardust is only used once; in Ep 005. The attack uses the same footage as Moon Tiara Action.

Shabon Spray (Bubble Spray) is used 36 times. It is first used in Ep 008 and last used in SMS Ep 124. It is Sailor Mercury’s most used attack and is used 3 times in Ep 041.

Akuryo Taisan is the one attack that can be used by a non-Senshi. Rei uses it first in Ep 010 before she becomes Sailor Mars. It is last used in Ep 168 for a total of 15 times.

In Ep 048, the animation is updated. The hands look a bit creepy with no finger nails, but it was cool as a kid to see Rei look so awesome. This is the only time the stock footage is used.

Fire Soul is used 43 times. First used in Ep 010 and last used in SMSS Ep 150 (though it would also be used twice in the SuperS movie). It is Sailor Mars’ most used attack.

Supreme Thunder is used 28 times. First in Ep 025 and last in SMSS Ep 139 (it would make its final appearance in the SuperS movie).

Super Supreme Thunder, a “stronger” version, of Supreme Thunder is used once in SMSS Ep 147.

Moon Healing Escalation is used 21 times. First in Ep 025 and last in Ep 46.

An updated animation (now with the Silver Crystal) was first used in Ep 036 and would be used for the rest of the first season. The base animation is the same, just with some updated effects.

Moon Healing Escalation is also used by Queen Serenity in Ep 044.

Crescent Beam is first used in Ep 033 and last used in SMS Ep 124, for a total of 17 times. It’s the only Sailor Venus attack to not be used in SuperS.

Moon Prism Power is only used once, in Ep 046, during the final battle with Queen Beryl. The DiC English dub renamed it Cosmic Moon Power.

Moon Princess Halation, my personal favourite Sailor Moon attack, is first used in Ep 051 and last used in Ep 090 for a total of 31 times.

Crescent Beam Shower is used twice. First in Ep 052 and again in Ep 057. Though a variation would be used in SuperS…

SuperS Ep 141 sees Sailor Venus use Crescent Beam Barrage, clearly a variation of Crescent Beam Shower. I wish the attack was used more in multi-opponent fights since it has such range.

Shabon Spray Freezing is used 5 times, first in Ep 052 and one last time in Ep 080. Weirdly the episode Ami gets the upgrade isn’t really about her, unlike the other 3 inner Senshi who have focus episodes for their upgrades.

Double Shabon Spray Freezing is only used in Ep 080 and doesn’t appear to be any stronger than the normal version, freezing the same amount of enemies (5).

Fire Soul Bird is only used twice. First in Ep 054 and then again, unsuccessfully, in Ep 059.

Supreme Thunder Dragon is the only Doom Tree upgrade attack to only be used once. It’s only appearance is Ep 055.

Shine Aqua Illusion is used 17 times, first in Ep 062 and last in Ep 143. It would be last seen in the SuperS movie.

Burning Mandala is used 36 times, first in Ep 063 and last seen in SuperS Ep 152.

Sparkling Wide Pressure is Sailor Jupiter’s most used attack; being used 33 times. First used in Ep 065 and last used in SuperS Ep 152.

Venus Love Me Chain is Sailor Venus’ most used attack. First used in Ep 065 and last used in Ep 171. It’s the only inner non-super attack to be used in Stars.

As Sailor Moon, Venus uses her chain and calls it Love Me Moon Chain in SMS Ep 102.

Venus Love Me Chain is shown to have offensive and defensive uses. She is able to attack, encircle her enemies or use the chain to catch falling allies (or herself).

Sailor Planet Power / Sailor Planet Attack is first used in Ep 072 and last used in SMS Ep 102 for a total of 4 uses. Ep 073 the attack is used by only the 4 inners.

Moon Crystal Power is used two different ways. Originally in Ep 070, 071 & 072 Moon Crystal Power activates the Silver Crystal to heal the Black Moon Sisters (using similar sound effects as Moon Healing Escalation. The sisters even say “refresh”).

Moon Crystal Power is also used (by Chibiusa and Usagi) to activate the Silver Crystals in their fight against Wiseman in Ep 088.

World Shaking is first used in Ep 090, though is not named until Ep 092. It is used 30 times and last used in SMStars Ep 198.

In Sailor Moon Sailor Stars, the animators tweaked the attack animation to include Sailor Uranus’ new Super upgrade - starting Ep 167.

Deep Submerge, just like World Shaking, first appears in Ep 090, but isn’t named until Ep 092. It makes 23 appearances and is last used in Ep 198.

Ep 167 also saw an update for Deep Submerge and Sailor Neptune’s super upgrade.

Moon Spiral Heart Attack is used 24 times. It is first used in Ep 091 and is used one final time in SMSS in Ep 130 before the Spiral Heart Moon Rod is turned into the Moon Kaleido Scope.

Pink Sugar Heart Attack is used 11 times (though I didn’t count how many successful times it’s used 😂) ChibiMoon first uses it in Ep 103 and technically last uses it in Ep 130…

Not called Pink Sugar Heart Attack, ChibiMoon uses a similar looking (and performing) attack in SMSS Ep 157…

… which makes sense since the Pink Moon Rod turns into the Crystal Carillon and unlike the manga the design uses elements of the Pink Moon Rod (which makes me wonder if the original plan was to have her use the attack more often).

Rainbow Moon Heart Ache is first used in Ep 112 and last used in Ep 122. It is used 11 times and can only be performed with the Spiral Moon Heart Rod while Sailor Moon is in her Super form.

Dead Scream is used 14 times. First in Ep 112 and last in Ep 197. It is Sailor Pluto’s only named attack in the entire anime.

And just like Uranus and Neptune, Sailor Pluto’s Dead Scream animation is updated in SMStars Ep 167.

Dead Scream holds the record of being used 5 times in a single episode. (In this clip alone the attack is clearly seen being used 4 different times).

Dead Scream uses the same attack animation as World Shaking, with the ground/rock effects removed.

And because Sailor Pluto is my favourite and I could do an entire thread on her alone… despite her animation having a red ring around the planet, a blue ring is seen outside stock animation.

Moon Cosmic Power is only seen once in Ep 125 against Pharaoh 90. The attack appears similar to Moon Spiral Heart Attack.

Moon Gorgeous Meditation is used 34 times. It first appears in Ep 128, with a unique animation and no attack phrase.

It is finally called Moon Gorgeous Meditation in Ep 130. It is last used in Ep 162. It is unknown if she can only use this attack if Pegasus is present.

Well not really an attack, Twinkle Yell is used 32 times. It is first used along side Moon Gorgeous Meditation in Ep 130 and last used in Ep 163.

Mercury Aqua Rhapsody is first used in Ep 151. It is last used in Ep 191 and used for a total of 14 times.

Mars Flame Sniper is used 15 times. It is first used in Ep 152 and last used in Ep 189.

Venus Love and Beauty Shock is used 13 times. It is first used in Ep 154 and last used in Ep 192. While the name is taken from the Dream Arc of the manga, the attack itself looks more like the manga attack Rolling Heart Vibration, rather then it’s proper manga counterpart.

Jupiter Oak Evolution, along with Love and Beauty Shock, is used 13 times and first introduced in Ep 154. It’s last appearance is Ep 191.

Moon Crisis Power, just like previous seasons, is used in the final battle of SuperS. It activates the Golden Crystal and is called out by the young dreamers of Tokyo. It appears only once in Ep 165.

An unnamed version of Starlight Honeymoon Therapy Kiss is used twice. First in Ep 168 and again in Ep 170.

The proper version of Starlight Honeymoon Therapy Kiss is first used in Ep 174 and last used in Ep 186 for a total of 15 times.

Space Sword Blaster is used twice in the series. First in Ep 169 and again in Ep 190.

The second version of Space Sword Blaster is used in Ep 190. The attack is first seen in the SuperS movie.

Submarine Reflection is only used once in the series; Ep 169. The attack is first used, much like Space Sword Blaster, in the SuperS movie,

While the Talisman are obtained by Uranus and Neptune in SMS Ep 111, they’re use in the anime is very limited compared to the manga. For being “extremely powerful weapons” it is odd they are barely used.

Silence Wall is Sailor Saturns most used attack in the anime, appearing 4 times. First in Ep 172 and last appearing in Ep 197.

The attack is also called Silent Wall, later in Stars, but is the same attack. Many believe Saturn was given a unique animation for the use in Ep 196, but it is simply her intro animation from Ep 168.

Silence Glaive Surprise is the most powerful attack in the series (aside from the Silver Crystal) and is technically used twice. While not seen or named it’s assumed it was used in SMS Ep 125 against Pharaoh 90. ChibiMoon stops her from completing the attack SMStars Ep 172.

Star Serious Laser is first seen in Ep 173 and last used in Ep 199 for a total of 11 uses.

The animation for Star Serious Laser is updated in Ep 180 to include the Starlight Star Yell (I assume to sell the toy).

A final newly animated version of Str Serious Laser is first used in Ep 188, and would be the one used for the remainder of Sailor Stars.

Sailor Star Maker’s Star Gentle Uterus is first used in Ep 174 and last used in Ep 199. It is used 7 times.

Just like Star Fighter, Sailor Star Maker’s attack has an updated version including the Starlight Star Yell in Ep 179.

The final version of Star Gentle Uterus is first used in Ep 189.

Star Sensitive Inferno is first used in Ep 175 and last used in Ep 199. Unlike the other Starlights, Star Healer’s attack doesn’t have a Starlight Star Yell version.

Star Healer’s Star Sensitive Inferno is used a total of 8 times and the final version first appears in Ep 189.

The LAST attack introduced in the series is Sailor Moon’s Silver Moon Crystal Power Kiss in Ep 187. This attack seems to work the exact same as Therapy Kiss and I don’t really understand why it was introduced, except to sell the Holy Moon Chalice toy. It appears 9 times.

In the end… attacks are used 661 times in the series (139/143/144/127/108) The most used attack is Fire Soul. By SuperS and Stars the variety and inventiveness of the attacks dropped, opting to mainly use Sailor Moon. SM and SMR found fun and creative ways for group attacks.
