Time to look into the history of Schweizerischer Bankverein which became UBS

"UBS was founded in 1862 as the Bank in Winterthur alongside the advent of the Swiss banking industry.

In 1912, the Bank of Winterthur merged with Toggenburger Bank to form the Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS)"
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UBS

The Toggenburger Bank was a savings and mortgage bank for customers with a branch office network in Eastern Switzerland.

In 1882, Toggenburger Bank opened a branch in St. Gallen and began to shift its operations there through the end of the 19th C

Condottieri notably served popes and other European monarchs ..

The first mercenary company with an Italian as its chief was the "Company of St. George" formed in 1339 and led by Lodrisio Visconti

From 1 May 1850 to 24 August 1866 he was also President of the German Confederation

The German Confederation - Deutscher Bund - was an association of 39 predominantly German-speaking sovereign states in Central Europe. It was created by the Congress of Vienna in 1815 as a replacement of the former Holy Roman Empire, which was dissolved in 1806

" the discussions and ideas of the period 1815-66 had a huge influence on the constitution of the North German Confederation. Most notably may be the Federal Council, the organ representing the member states

The successor of that Federal Council of 1867 is the modern Bundesrat "

"UBS, through Swiss Bank Corporation, traces its history to 1854 when six private banking firms in Basel, Switzerland pooled their resources to form the Bankverein"

In 1871, the Bankverein coordinated with the German Frankfurter Bankverein to form the Basler Bankverein

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equitable…
In 1907, Daniel H. Burnham's company had proposed replacing the Equitable Life Building with a 33-story structure

Equitable president Paul Morton publicly denied plans for a new structure and ..the plan was ultimately dropped

The Equitable Life Building was destroyed by a fire on January 9, 1912, which killed six people

Thompson–Starrett (TS) was hired to clear the site

TS president Louis J. Horowitz approached businessman T. Coleman du Pont

The new Equitable Building was completed in 1915

In 1925, du Pont sold the building to the New York Empire Company, a subsidiary of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen. The next year, the Brotherhood sold the building to a syndicate composed of

William Henry Vanderbilt, Harry C. Cushing III, and Leroy W. Baldwin for $40 million

By the 1940s, the Equitable Office Building Corporation was in poor financial shape. Bankruptcy proceedings started in 1940, but were delayed due to World War II

..maybe Tony Blair got all the inside gossip about that
🤔

"In 1977, the St. Gallen Symposium made the headlines with a round table discussion with German Employers' President Hanns Martin Schleyer and DGB Chairman Heinz Oskar Vetter"

Hanns was a member of the SS

"After World War II, the Allies held Schleyer as a prisoner of war for three years because of his membership as an Untersturmführer in the SS. In his denazification proceeding, Schleyer falsely understated his rank so as to reduce his prospective punishment."

"He was repatriated in 1948. In 1949 he became secretary of the chamber of commerce of Baden-Baden. In 1951 Schleyer joined Daimler-Benz, and, with help from a mentor, Fritz Könecke, eventually became a member of the board of directors."

"Successively, Schleyer became more involved in employers' associations, and was a leader in employer and industry associations. He was simultaneously president of the Confederation of German Employers' Associations (BDA) and the Federation of German Industries (BDI)."

"On 5 September 1977, an RAF unit "commando Siegfried Hausner", named after an RAF figure killed during the Stockholm embassy attack two years earlier, attacked the chauffeured car carrying Schleyer.."

"The RAF demanded that the German government release captured members of their organization. After this demand was declined the RAF members were all eventually found dead in their jail cells. After Schleyer's kidnappers received the news of the death of their imprisoned comrades"

"Schleyer was taken from Brussels on 18 October 1977, and shot dead en route to Mulhouse, France, where his body was left in the trunk of a green Audi 100 on the rue Charles Péguy. "

🤔

"After his death Schleyer has been extensively honoured in Germany;

the Hanns Martin Schleyer Prize, the Hanns Martin Schleyer Foundation and the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle are named in his honour."

In 2021 the Hanns Martin Schleyer Prize winner was Wolfgang Ischinger
