"Suo-er, come back to baba" Shi Ying raises his arms, his words coming out harshly.
Suo'er in his excitement, clings to Baili's leg and shouts in joy, "But baba I finally found A-Die! Now baba doesn't need to be sad anymore!"
Shi Ying hears the gasp from Baili but ignores it. There is blood roaring in his ears, black spots floating in his vision as he yells, You do not have an A-Die, Suo-er! You do not have one" but his voice comes out sorrowful instead of angry.
Suo'er is only a child, unable to decipher the painful entanglement between the two adults. His eyes well up, his lower lip wobbling as he bursts into tears.
Shi Ying's heart breaks into a million little pieces. But he cannot stay here any longer. He cannot stay.
The fear that he has lived with for years is now finally manifesting in its horrifying form. He cannot let the Baili family take his son away from him. They took his beloved away but Shi Ying will die before they take his son away from him.
He pushes away every other feeling having Baili near him ignites and pulls Suo'er away from him. All the while Baili stays absolutely silent and still.
"But baba-" Suo'er hiccups, "A-Die! I want A-Die!" He yells, still wrapping his small arms around Shi Ying's neck.
Shi Ying swallows the tears that threaten to escape his eyes and without even looking back turns to walk away.
"A-Ying"
That one word, a voice that he was once so familiar with stops him dead in his tracks.
Shi Ying's entire body reacts to that familiarity, betraying him.
Baili's next words are like a knife in his chest, cold sweat washing over him, "A-Ying, why didn't you tell me? Why?" His voice so broken and so hurt that Shi Ying almost forgives him again. Like the fool he has always been, like a fool who has always done.
But then a fierce anger overpowers all other emotions. What right does Baili have sounding so hurt? How dare he!
Even as his hand keeps calming Suo'er, patting his back soothingly, the words out of his mouth are like a raging cold fire that has been buried too long.
"Would you have believed me, back then Er-Lang?" Shi Ying spits out, eyes finally meeting Baili's surprised ones. "Believed me over your own family?"
Baili's gave turns guilty at that and that in answer enough for Shi Ying. He laughs bitterly. "He is no one to you"
"He is only my child. He does not need anyone else. I do not need anyone else" and then, not waiting for an answer, he mounts his sword and flies into the sky.
Baili can only watch the only two people in his life that he ever wanted, getting farther and farther away from him.
"I would have believed you, A-Ying. You just needed to tell me" Baili whispers brokenly, eyes never leaving the blue sky. The image of his child and his beloved searing into his mind, tormenting him like he very well deserved.
Once again, Baili Hongyi has lost them both.
