What is required for enlightenment/self-realization?
Self-realization is identifying with awareness, not the personal self.
Awareness is what fundamentally or really exists.

It’s inevitable that we’ll notice this now and again, because the truth can’t be hidden completely.
What’s required is accepting it.
We can do this gradually or suddenly.
Eventually, delusion will seem less credible.

But we can certainly hang on to it & keep believing odd things.
For example, when I’m falling asleep, I think I’m sinking into darkness.
Basically, I imagine I’m “falling” into sleep.

I don’t sink into an unvarying dark substance & hang out there for 8 hrs.
When you turn off your TV its characters don’t luxuriate in darkness until you turn it on again.
Their being depends on electricity etc.
That’s true for “me,” too.

There’s an apparent self; when its conditions are gone, it’s gone.
When its conditions are back, it’s back.
This is an easy observation to make, but we like to think “we” were resting, meditating, etc.

The personal self likes to come online saying:
“I slept well,” or “I had a great meditation!”
Which is funny, if you think about it.

What’s fundamentally real, then?
Is it the body?
Well, we only experience the body when we’re back online.

The body and mind are two sides of the same coin.
Awareness is real, but there’s no “me” in it.
“I” have a relative existence only.
