Paintings made by men sell for 10x as much as women's paintings. This is fucked, so I made 2 #fxhash pieces (a diptych) to draw attention to it.
Available for minting now, links and background below 👇

Alright with that out of the way, here's some background on the diptych:
Last week, @sashastiles made me aware that the gender wage gap is even worse in art than it is overall. There's much more in this story by @guardian:
theguardian.com/artanddesign/2…

I've recently wanted to combine my love for conceptual art with #fxhash, and this hit me as an excellent topic to get started with. The outcome is Wo/Men in Art, two (almost) identical pieces sold as two different gentks.

There is only one line of code's difference between the two. "Men in art" uses a dithering filter that favors blue colors, while "Women in art" favors red tones.
Thus MIA avoids pink colors, while WIA embraces them, thus mimicking our strangely gendered relationship with colors.

On the pricing side, you see MIA priced at 10x as much as WIA. The amount of editions per piece reflects the fact that there's a more-or-less 50/50 split in gender among humans.

A quick look at the current all-time highest volume on #fxhash shows that we might be facing the same issue on our dear generative art platform. Of the top 12 artists, only 1 is a woman (it's @pointline_ obv).
[Not sure what @CandyChrome9's gender is, so won't assume anything]

There's no easy solution to this, but like most things, the first step is to admit we have a problem. If you're a collector, who wants to do your part, I suggest checking out the women-in-genart #fxhash Discord channel: discord.com/channels/90033…

Go buy some works from the ladies on there, follow them on their social media, like their tweets, retweet them. Make a conscious effort to amplify their voices!
If you don't know where to start, my DMs are open to help you out 💕

Oh yeah, and LGBT+ people are probably also affected by a similar discrimination, so go to the lgbtqia2s-in-genart channel as well, if you want to become Ally Of The Year™️!
