Took an amazing ✈️ to my second home in Sao Miguel Azores, Portugal to visit my 93 year old grandmother #azores #saomiguel
During a hike I tried this new sports/hydration drink @liquidiv and couldn’t help but try to calculate which IV solution it is most similar to
1 packet of Liquid IV has 500 mg of sodium and 370 mg of potassium. The instructions suggest mixing 1 packet in 16 oz of water (~473 mL). The molecular weight of sodium and potassium are 23 mg/mmol and 39 mg/mmol respectively.
If I did the math right, there is ~46 mmol/L of sodium and ~20 mmol/L of potassium in this drink (total 66 mmol/L). Making it most like 0.45% normal saline
I am still unsure of how to answer my cousins questions “Is this better for hydrating myself?” compared to other sport/hydration drinks but it was a fun reminder that I do love my job 💜
